‘My work explores themes of memory, distance and connection through the language of landscape.’
Hello and welcome.
I'm Lara Tees, a Melbourne based artist, and I create expressive landscapes featuring expansive skies and distant horizons.
My work has been described as atmospheric, emotional and evocative, and my paintings have been featured in exhibitions and galleries across Australia. I have also been a finalist in several art prizes.
I love the Australian landscape and I take much of my inspiration from the colours and textures of this amazing country I'm fortunate to call home.
My work captures the experience of being in a place and the feelings that it evokes. I hope my work transports you to those places, so I can share them with you.

Open Studio Trail
On Saturday 27 June, independent artist studios, galleries and maker spaces across Footscray + Yarraville will open their doors to the public for a self-guided Open Studio Trail.
If you've ever wondered what happens behind the scenes in a working artist's studio, this is your chance to take a peek behind the curtain.
I'll be opening my studio doors from 11am–4pm, and visitors are welcome to explore my studio space, see works in progress, ask questions, and gain insight into how my paintings develop from initial layers through to finished pieces.
This isn't a polished gallery experience. It's the real thing: paint-splattered tools, unfinished works, experiments, successes, and the occasional abandoned project.
And as a small thank you for visiting, everyone who visits my studio on the day can enter a draw to win an original mini oil painting.
Studio #29 at 210 Whitehall Street, Footscray
11-4pm
Free entry | Family friendly with supervision | Bike parking, street parking available on Whitehall, Harris and Cowper Streets | Closest train station is Sedan

Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show
Thank you to everyone who visited the Art Fair at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show from 25 to 29 March 2026.
Over the five days I had so many beautiful conversations with people who connected with my work. Those quiet moments of reflection and shared stories are inspiring and something I don’t take for granted.
Thank you for being part of it.

2025 solo exhibition

Come away with me
5 - 30 October, 2025
My solo exhibition 'Come away with me' at the NaNY Gallery in Warrandyte is inspired by the Australian landscape and the emotional connections we form with place.
Each painting is a reflection of how landscapes hold stories - personal, collective, and imagined - and how we carry those stories within ourselves.
